Haunted Houses - Woodchester Mansion

Guess Who Came For Dinner?

Woodchester Mansion belonged to the Ducie family. In 1840 when the 2nd Earl of Ducie threw a dinner party to honor to celebrate, his father attendended the affair. It was a wonderful gesture by his father, but it would have been more appreciated if he was still alive. Attending as a ghost didn't go over so well and scared the Earl of Ducie so much that he up and left never to return.

In 1845 part of the estate land was sold to the Bucknall family who were extremely wealthy. Work began on a very large and exrtravagant home, but after 16 years it was never completed. Work stopped and the mansion remained unfinished except for one room that was completed for a visit by Cardinal Vaughan. People claim to smell the aroma of candles in the chapel but obviously no candles are there as it was never finished. Although there is not a lot of reports of a great deal of ghosty activity, the estate is well worth a visit as Woodchester Mansion is a gorgeous mansion.
