Frightened To Death

During the Cromwellian persecutions of Catholics this former Coaching Inn was used to hold mass and hide the Catholic priests. There are hidden tunnels and hidden staircases where the priests could hide if the soldiers came looking for them.

The ghost of one of the priests, Father Bernard stayed behind, probably due to the tragic circumstances of his death. It seems they had a warning bell system set up to notify the priests on when to hide and a servent decided to pull a prank and rang it. Father Bernand was so frightened he died of a heart attack. You can often find Father Bernard in Suite 52 where he will glide across the room or you can hear him chant his prayers.
