The Ghostly Stable Boy
Constructed in 1573 by Sir John Arundell. The family
spent lived there at least part of the year until 1802
at which time their 400 year occupancy ended and Trerice
Manor was purchased by the Acland family.
In 1915, after owning the manor for
only 113 years the Acland family sold the estate and
it was during this time that the people in the countryside
declared it to be haunted.
The story goes that sometime during
its long history Lord Arunell was a wicked man who
seduced a young servant girl who then became pregnant.
Upon finding out she was pregnant he abandoned her
and she was so distraught that she committed suiside.
While he ghost has never been seen, when the temperature
in the room drops and the air begins to smell of lilacs,
then she is in the room. She is felt most strongly
in the libraray and many people claim to hear the russle
of her skirts as she passes by. Some say she could
be the Gray Lady who is often seen in the houses gallery
or could be the one responsible for all of the bumps
in the night.
The other ghost that haunts the home
is a stable boywho appears in the ourtyard and around
the stables. They say that he was killed when the horses
bolted suddenly and trampled him to death. Why he remains
is a mystery. It could be the violence of his death,
his great love of the stables and its horses, or maybe
he just doesn't like the fact that the stables are
now public washrooms for visitors.
