Howling Hounds
This manor house dates back to 1470 and one of the resident
ghosts is from a previous home that stood on this spot
which was a hunting lodge owned by the Crown. John Aleyn
cared for King John's injured hounds and lived in this
home. They say that on New Years Eve and Midsummer's
Eve you will hear the hounds start to howl and they don't
stop until a ghostly hunter blows his horn.
In 1874 then owners made the mistake
of removing the newel staircase because ghosts were often
seen on it and the ladies of the home wanted the ghosts
gone. These ghosts no longer appear at the house, but
you will hear the ghostly chants of the Roman Catholic liturgies.
The reason for this, since there is nothing religious
in the history of the house is unknown.
