Jenny Is Unhappy
Old Doar Manor was originally owned by the
Culpepper family who gained their wealth in a rather odd
way. They would kidnap wealthy heiresses and force them to
marry one of the males in the family.
The chapel and the solar chamber still survive
but the medieval hall was destroyed.
Jenny is one of the ghosts that haunt Old
Soar Manor (which stands for Grief) who was a servant seduced
by a drunken priest at Christmas 1775 and became pregnant.
How she died is unknown, some say the priest who impregnated
her had a violent argument with her and her head hit the
font in the church and she drowned in a few inches of water,
and nother says she fainted and hit her head. Whatever the
reason, the Geary family who owned the manor took her body
and buried it in unconsecrated ground and ever since her
ghost returns to the chapel in an effort to let people know
the truth.
It is speculated that she is also unhappy
with where she is buried and wants to her remains to be given
a Christian burial but since know one knows where she was
buried it is impossible to do that.
If you choose to visit Old Soar Manor try
to do so in the month of June when most activity appears
to incur. You will hear ghostly footsteps and lights appearing
and floating throughout the chapel.
