Whisp of a Ghost
As with many large homes, there are bigger
than life events attached to them. Layer Marney Tower goes
back to the first Lord Henry Marney from the days of Henry
VIII. When he died in 1523 the home was incomplete and so
it passed on to his son to finish the home. Sadly enough,
the son John died just two short years later and Layer Marney
Tower was left without a male heir. This did not go over so
well with Henry, so he has decided to stick around and oversee
the place.
One of the rooms in the tower is said to be
haunted. Workmen have heard doors being slammed, but the only
door is rusted shut. Not only that, but people have also seen
a cloaked figure outside this very door.
You can also catch a glimpse of Henry, dressed
in full armour on a steed walking down the 96 stairs of the
spiral staircase. Now that is one apparition I would love
to see.
