The White Lady Tapping
This splendid manor is from the 13th century and
has both Jacobean and Georgian extensions. In the
Jacobean room you will find a flight of stairs
from when the home was first built, but they lead
nowhere and end abruptly at the ceiling. It is
not known why they are there. It is said the "white
lady" appears on these steps and it is believed
she is the neice of Cuthbert Billingham that used
to own the manor. Ghost tours are now given for
this home and it is said that the white lady will
often appear during the tours and in one instance
during the tour the white lady tapped on the shoulder
of the lady of the house and one of the visitors
witnessed the event.
