Heavy Handed Oliver
In 1636 Oliver Cromwell moved into this 13th century
house that he inherited from his uncle. The occupants
of the house consisted of Oliver Cromwell, his
wife, 6 children, his mother and his two unmarried
sisters for a total of 11 people in this modest
home. He only lived in the home for approximately
10 years before moving to London, England and held
the position of Lord Protector and moved into Hampton
Court Place.
There appear to be several ghosts who haunt Cromwell's
house one of which is said to be Oliver Cromwell himself. Although it
is now a museum there have been many instances in which people have either
felt ghosts or people researching ghosts have become so uneasy they are
unable to spend the entire night.
Once when the home was a vicarage, a couple were staying
in the room above where Oliver Cromwell used to have his office. She
awoke in the middle of the night not to find herself in bed, but rather
pushed in a corner and being held there. Although the ghost was holding
her firmly in the corner the woman did not feel threatened and eventually
the male ghost released her grip and she returned to bed. In the morning
when she awoke she thought at first she must have been dreaming but upon
lifting up the sleeves of her nightgown she saw hand prints from where
the ghost held her the night before.
There have been many claims of doors slammimg and footsteps
being heard and mediums claim that the energy they get in the home is
sinister and makes them feel sick to their stomachs.
