
Smile for the camera
Founded in 1133 by Hugh de Malbanc, Lord Nantwich
it wa originally a Savignaac foundation. It was
given to Sir George Cotton during the Dissolution
of the Monasteries.
In 1891 Lady Combermere's sister Sybell Corbett who was
staying at the Abbey at the time decided to take pictures of the Abbey.
One of these pictures is shown below (black and white photograph). The
exposure time she noted was 1 hour in length. During the one hour of
the exposure no one was in the library but if you look closely you can
see the image of Lord Combermere sitting in his chair. Normally this
would not be unusual except for the fact that Lord Combermere was dead
and at that moment his funeral was in progress. Combermere Abbey Library
